PEGASUS ARTIST OF THE MONTH – APRIL 2019
Deborah Rhee is an Australian-born artist new to Bainbridge Island, who has worked in oil and glaze for the past 20 years. She has recently added mixed media to her visual language after a year spent experimenting with art journaling and works on paper. This new addition has greatly informed her general arts practice and expanded her repertoire to include smaller canvas works.
Deborah is inspired by the work of the New York School Abstract Expressionists and her palette is influenced deeply by the environment in which she lives.
She is drawn to oil paint as her primary medium, in part for its archival properties but also its sculptural qualities. Oil lends itself to being pushed around the canvas and allows for expressive scratching and scraping of the surface. Painting is an intuitive process for her guided by the act of revealing and concealing, expressed in the many layers that go into each work.
All featured artworks from this exhibition are available for viewing and sale on the walls of Pegasus Coffee House from April 2 through April 30, and also for online sale (with the addition of a packaging and shipping charge unique to each work) – please make all non-local purchase inquiries via the Contact Pegasus Page here at pegasusbainbridge.com.
